"Wow!" What a crew! That's all I can say about our crew here at the high school. This summer they were able to accomplish an amazing amount of cleaning and maintenance in preparation for the 2008-09 school year. Here's a brief overview of what was done.
"Beaker" (Bob Bennison) and his colleagues "Suga Mama" (Louise Tchekou) and our student helpers Cameron and Jeff did all the cleaning of rooms throughout the buildings including the sweltering portables in the heat. They dusted, vacuumed, wiped down walls, doors, counter tops, cleaned windows and scrubbed areas as needed in order to provide teachers a clean environment in which to teach beginning next month. Their efforts included working around 10Tech training, driver's ed, summer school and miscellaneous classes and teachers who needed to be in the building at random times. Awesome job people!!
"Scooby Doo" (Steve Andersen) and his partner "Inspector Gadget" (La Vang) scrubbed and re-waxed all the tile floors in the building including those little rooms that are often overlooked. They did this while also working around the various activities as mentioned above. Besides that, they have been working on other summer related maintenance. Some of these include cleaning all the gutters and drains on the roof, pressure washing walls, garbage cans and door mats, moving furniture in and out of rooms and moving items to the surplus pick-up area, and more. They are using these last two weeks to finish up odds and ends and to move furniture into portables 13 and 14 which is the new home of the New Vision program. Way to go!
"The Green Hornet" (Jim Bergum) accomplished the overwhelming task of cleaning ALL of the carpets in the school. With help from the student helpers such as Cameron and Katie, he was able to complete all of the building except the two portables above which he'll finish this week. He also has done other odds and ends as needed to keep the building functional, maintained and running smoothly. Fantastic job!
Besides the above-mentioned items, painting, repairs, filter changes, locker combination changes and so on are being completed. Tavlen Terwillegar our weekend Stadium Monitor has also lent his had in keeping the outside areas cleaned, the cans dumped and has worked on cleaning windows amongst other things as the summer progresses. Thank you!
A big thank you to the staff as well for working with us as we endeavor to accomplish this potentially daunting task. The staff here is fantastic and we couldn't accomplish what we do without their help and understanding. We also thank Terry Duty for his support and his positive comments in the welcome back letter he sent out. In part it states "the building has been buzzing with staff preparing for the upcoming year and our custodial staff has done a great job preparing the building for the upcoming year (make sure you thank Rick and the crew if you get the chance!)." Thanks much Terry!
I could go on and on about our "superhero" staff and all they've accomplished. Suffice it to say that we work together well as a team and are glad we could accomplish what was needed in preparation for school on September 2 as well as Bear Days this week. We trust everything looks good and satisfactory for another new year and that the students will not only appreciate what's been done in preparation but will also respect the efforts of all those involved in preparing for this year.
Thank you all! "Batman" (Rick Bergum)
