That's why the designations given fluorescent bulbs are T12, T5 or T3. For example a T12 means it is a tube that measures 12/8 inches in diameter or 1 1/2 inches. A T5 would be 5/8 inches in diameter. The smaller bulbs are more energy efficient and many buildings and homes are moving to these smaller lights.
