October 15. A day for positives and negatives. On the positive side, it's Global Handwashing Day. A day to think about the serious need to wash your hands after any activity that could increase germs or spread disease. In some countries, handwashing is not a priority or there is a lack of water to perform this task. Sometimes, people just forget to wash their hands thereby inadvertently spreading disease. By thinking about the seriousness of handwashing, we can all help keep one another healthy.
On the negative side, October 15 is also Imagine a Day Without Water. What a scary thought. NO water! Water is used everywhere for just about everything. If we had no water to drink, to clean with, to wash our hands, to use to prepare food, for industries, and so much more, we'd be up a creek with no water and a useless paddle. This day is designed to get us to stop and think about how valuable water is for life and why using it wisely and resourcefully is crucial.
