Well, just a couple more days and another school year will have ended. As the summer begins so does our workload. We will be cleaning rooms, carpets, floors and windows, performing maintenance, moving furniture and more. As a crew, we enjoy working together and have a fun time doing so. Our plan is to have most of the building ready-to-roll by August 15 so that back-to-school-activities can begin shortly thereafter.
We are looking forward to the 2008-09 year with caution and concern as the economy continues to cut into our budgets and ability to do our job well. Unfortunately, the student numbers increase, outside usage of the facilities increases, but our budgets don't keep up. We are trying to cut costs as much as possible, but even in so doing we realize that we most likely will have to start cutting back on what we can clean and accomplish effectively. Something has to give somewhere. What that will be is hard to say right now. We'll do the best we can.
We are preparing for a productive but relaxed summer. A few days off here and there will be refreshing and well-deserved. Until then, we will finish out this school year in hopes of another year running smoothly and fiscally sufficient.
Educating custodians, school staff, students, parents and the public on the duties, responsibilities and needs of a school facility. Working to make the custodial department more understandable and hoping to engage the support and help of all who use the campus. Sharing information on several cleaning-related, health and custodial topics to enlighten readers and requesting input from all who peruse this blog.

And you do an amazing job. More than that, though, you're just terrific support people. Thank you for what you do.
