No education means no advancement. It means sitting stagnant in a world of knowledge. It means falling behind when it comes to doing the best you can at your job. Custodial education is no different. Chemical companies, environmentalists, the public, government agencies and others continue to make advancement and set goals toward better, safer and greener cleaning. We need to keep up with these changes and educate ourselves so that we do the best job we can taking care of our school buildings and protecting those who work within the confines of their walls.
Are you taking advantage of the education being offered to you free of charge? Yearly, we have trainings on most staff development days. Every month we have a newsletter with informative information. (http://swift.tahoma.wednet.edu/ths/rbergum/index.php?section=documents) Occasionally our department supervisor sponsors training and meetings. The vendors who service us provide information and training as needed and requested. Newspaper, Internet and other sources also provide information we can use if we are attuned to them. Plus our own research and desire to do better come into play. And how about this blog? Information is provided here as well.
Have you thought about creating a blog to share your knowledge? How about using the district's access to SWIFT to create a website for your custodial department at your school? What about providing input for the monthly newsletter or sharing other related information via e-mail? All of these avenues are ways to take in and share with others information applicable to our department. Why not do more starting today! As we say, "Better Cleaning Through Education!"
Educating custodians, school staff, students, parents and the public on the duties, responsibilities and needs of a school facility. Working to make the custodial department more understandable and hoping to engage the support and help of all who use the campus. Sharing information on several cleaning-related, health and custodial topics to enlighten readers and requesting input from all who peruse this blog.
