A Bright Idea

Can you put a dimmer switch on a flourescent light? No. Because it has a ballast which changes the voltage to start the light and is a set "on" or "off" situation, the dimmer will not work. The dimmer reduces the voltage to the light causing it to become brighter or dimmer. Since the flourescent light needs constant voltage, a dimmer would defeat this purpose.
