The way a restroom looks will affect your perception of the rest of the facility. I've always said that restrooms need to be clean. (Click on the link on the left under Newsletters and see the feature article in the October, 2008 issue.) In a school environment, that is quite a challenge since they are only cleaned once per day. During the day they are in constant use by hundreds of people. Thus, by the end of a school day, the restrooms look poor.
Interestingly, other studies have been done on the cleanliness of restrooms and what things to be aware of. More attempts at preventing disease are becoming manifest as restrooms go to more "touchless" fixtures. We hope to do the same in our building in the near future. In the meantime, good sanitation and disinfection will go a long way toward preventing disease and sickness. I think you'll find the article in the following link interesting. It's definitely something to consider no matter what restroom you use.
