Apprehension

School ends in 20 days! This is the time of year I start to get butterflies in my stomach. My nerves begin to vibrate with apprehension, tension and a general feeling of the unknown. When I start thinking about the summer cleaning that has to be done, the changes that will occur, the interruptions and events that are scheduled and the limited time in the summer to accomplish it all, I worry.

My biggest fear is always not being able to get everything completed. When you consider the size of the building and how much there is to clean, maintain and take care of, it can get overwhelming. Somehow, by the end of the summer, we seem to get most of it done and everyone is happy.

This year we have the normal cleaning to do, maintenance requests, meetings and other events. We will also be getting new furniture which often has to be assembled and delivered to rooms, we have parts of the building that will have some construction done, and whatever else pops up unannounced during the summer.

As I try to steer this huge ship through the waters of controlled chaos, my mind reels as I try to control it and finish the tasks at hand on time.  As June 20 nears, by nerves will tense up and my gut will churn. By September 4 I will be almost back to normal and wonder how in the world we accomplished everything we had to do again. Another summer gone and another school year started.
