I guess it's not just in our district. I've commented that each year it seems that we have less and less time to do our cleaning as more summer groups, events and meetings are allowed to use the buildings. Obviously this causes more pressure and stress on the custodial staff to get the school cleaned in time for classes to begin.
I've often said that the custodians should have from at least a week after school is out until a couple of weeks before school starts to clean without any other people or events going on in the buildings. I don't think that will ever happen, but it would certainly allow us to get the schools cleaner and the required maintenance completed in time and with less pressure on the custodians.
Check out the article below and see how this situation is happening in other places too!

Yep it does make our work much harder and takes longer as we have to work around everything. Then unscheduled things come up and we later have to go back and reclean areas so it will be ready for school to start. FROM:The Green Hornet Buzzing around the school to care for your needs.
