Often called janitors, custodians are becoming more adept and knowledgeable than in years past. In an article by the AP entitled "School Cleaners Gather at Jonesboro, Ark., for Custodian Institute," information was presented dealing with this change. Note what was said.
The days of school janitors pushing their brooms up and down the hallway after the kids leave for the day are apparently long gone. They're called custodians, now, and they have to pay attention to laws and regulations. But how they do their jobs can greatly affect how a visitor views a school, according to Bob Smith, director of custodial services at Arkansas State University."The efforts you put forth are really what sells the institution," Smith told an audience of custodians during an annual Custodial Training Institute last week.George Jones of Spartan Chemicals spoke to the custodians about regulations covering use of cleaning chemicals. He said rules now require keeping safety-data logs that list the makeup and properties of the products used. (JONESBORO, Ark. (AP))
