Yesterday I met with Kristine Cramer and two high school teachers, Sara Leroux and Jennifer Roesch along with one student and Kristine's colleague Cole. Kristine works for the King County Green Schools Program. We discussed the issue of recycling and how the high school can begin to phase in this program over the next few years. As the students in the lower grades become accustomed to recycling in many forms, it will carry with them to the high school level.
In the works is a "green team" club which will head up the program and work along with the Life Skills students to promote, educate and implement this program. Kristine made comments that this district has been tremendous in its efforts to get on board and work toward a healthier and cleaner planet. She also stated that Mike Maryanski is one of the best Superintendent's she's ever been able to work with due to his interest in the program and the schools.
The January, 2009 issue of As The Toilet Turns will feature two articles dealing with sustainability and observations by Kristine in the district schools.
I look forward to working with this team to make the high school, the city and the earth a better place to live and to limit the amount of waste produced and save our resources.
Educating custodians, school staff, students, parents and the public on the duties, responsibilities and needs of a school facility. Working to make the custodial department more understandable and hoping to engage the support and help of all who use the campus. Sharing information on several cleaning-related, health and custodial topics to enlighten readers and requesting input from all who peruse this blog.
