That's Garbage!

Our last poll asked the question: "On a normal evening, what do you think takes the custodians the longest to do?" Twenty percent said 'vacuum', twenty percent said 'clean restrooms' and sixty percent said 'empty trash'. For the most part, the answer is emptying trash. It takes 2 1/2 to 3 hours to empty all the garbage in the building and portables every night. Vacuuming comes in second and cleaning restrooms third.

On any given night, the accumulation of garbage remains relatively the same. However, when a break is looming on the horizon or summer is near the garbage increases almost exponentially due to parties, students and teachers cleaning out their desks and folders and general organizing.  On those nights the time it takes to empty garbage takes even longer. And this doesn't even include emptying recycle. Most of the year the students and teachers empty their own recycle. During breaks and summer we do all of it to get it back in shape. When we do both garbage and recycle, it will take four to seven hours to do all of the hauling and sorting throughout the building.

The 25 yard dumpster. Another 10 yard is also used.
